Our Farms & Sourcing
Kataleia buys roses directly from a small group of partner farms in the high-altitude valleys of Ecuador and Colombia. No importers, no wholesalers, no auction floor in between. We work farm-to-studio so the people who grow your stems and the people who design with them are only a few days apart.
Direct farm partnerships
We build long-term relationships with premium rose growers and order from them by name, not from a spot market. That direct line gives us consistent quality, honest pricing, and the ability to tell you exactly where a stem came from. Because there is no middle layer absorbing margin and vase life, you get fresher flowers and wholesale prices with room to grow.
Why equatorial high-altitude roses
The growing regions of Ecuador and Colombia sit near the equator at elevation, and that combination is hard to beat for roses. The conditions there tend to produce:
- Larger heads from intense, consistent equatorial light and cool nights.
- Long, straight, strong stems that hold their form through design and transport.
- Saturated, true color across reds, pastels, and novelty varieties.
- Long vase life — typically 12 or more days when handled and hydrated properly.
Steady daylength year-round also means we can plan harvests against your event calendar rather than against a short domestic season.
Cut to order, not pulled from a cooler
Kataleia roses are cut to order. When you place an order, those exact stems are harvested for you at the farm — they are not pulled from standing inventory that has already been sitting in a cooler. Our weekly cutoff is Thursday 9 PM ET; stems are cut Friday at origin and most studios receive their boxes the following Monday or Tuesday. Typical lead time runs 4 to 5 days from order to delivery, and each product lists its own lead time.
Single-origin transparency
We think you should know what you are buying. Every product in our catalog shows its origin and, where available, the specific partner farm behind the SKU. Single-origin sourcing means a bunch is one variety from one farm — no blending of lots from unknown suppliers — so the stems in your box behave consistently from the first arrangement to the last.
Cold chain from the moment of harvest
Vase life is won or lost in the first hours after cutting. Stems are hydrated and cooled at origin right after harvest, then moved through a continuous cold chain — origin, flight, and onward transport — to your door. Every shipment is tracked, so you can see where your flowers are before they land. Keeping the temperature steady from farm to studio is how we protect the head size, color, and longevity the growing region gives us.
Sustainability & ethical sourcing
We choose partner farms that share our standards for how flowers and people are treated. That means working with growers who invest in responsible water and crop practices, safe working conditions, and fair treatment of their teams. We favor long-term partnerships over one-off buying because lasting relationships are what let us hold farms to a consistent standard over time. As our sourcing program matures, we will share more detail about the specific practices and recognitions behind individual farms rather than make broad claims we cannot stand behind.
Quality you can rely on
Direct sourcing, cut-to-order harvesting, and an unbroken cold chain are backed by our freshness guarantee. If flowers arrive damaged or short, email photos within 24 hours of delivery to claims@kataleia.com and we will resolve it by refund or replacement on your next shipment — no lengthy claims process.
